Pilates is about moving well.

Pilates makes a better you, physically and mentally and enables you to move your body in the way it was designed to. Your stress will diminish and you’ll find yourself energised. Practise regularly and your body will get stronger, more toned and flexible.

Whether you’re new to Pilates, returning after a break, would like to re-visit the fundamentals or want to continue your practise challenging and improving your ability to move with ease, efficiency and enjoyment, we have a class for you.

Pilates is not a one-size-fits-all approach, it is a personalised path to strength, balance and wellbeing.

What can Pilates do for you?

Mat-based Pilates is a low impact workout incorporating repetitive movements that focus on strengthening your whole body, predominantly your core.

Benefits:

  • Improves posture/skeletal alignment and tones the body

  • Improves core control/strength

  • Improves balance

  • Improves flexibility

  • Relieves stress and tension*

  • Enhances cognitive and physical wellbeing

  • Complements all other forms of exercise

Pilates keeps you feeling youthful, energized and strong. Stay active, stand tall and embrace longevity.

*Pilates will calm your mind – it requires such concentration and control (two of Joseph Pilates’ key principles) that you will leave class feeling relaxed and refreshed.

What to expect

Group mat-based classes have a maximum of 12 spaces, which enables me to give individual supervision to each client if needed.

The class setup

Exercises will challenge and improve mobility, stability and strength, increasing awareness of and reducing tension in the body and promoting better balance in body and mind.

Exercises are performed from a variety of start positions such as standing, lying on front or back, sitting, all fours, kneeling.

As a courtesy to your fellow class members, your prompt arrival for start of class is appreciated. Please turn off your mobile phone or switch to silent mode.

What your session will look like

Small equipment is sometimes used which can enhance movement, increase challenge, aid alignment and stability and increase focus such as resistance bands, small weights, toning circles, overballs.

Some equipment is provided, though you are encouraged to provide your own kit/equipment where possible.  Sources can be provided on request.

What to wear & bring

Please bring your own exercise mat and a water bottle.

Please wear comfortable exercise clothing. *Ideally clothing should not be too baggy as it is important that I can see your body alignment and muscle engagement to offer accurate corrections.

We exercise barefoot or wear grippy-soled socks. Please don’t wear normal socks as these will cause you to slip.

I.C.

I am just coming to the end of the beginners course with Jo and will definitely be booking on to do more.

The instruction is clear and easy to follow with lots of demonstration so you know exactly what you need to be doing and with a small group you never feel like you can’t ask for help. Jo’s approach is friendly and gentle and it’s been a great introduction as I’d not done any Pilates previously.  It’s a good addition to the other exercise I do too.

Thanks Jo, you have a convert here.
