Beginners
Yoga Class

Beginners Class

Several times a year a beginner course will run over six sessions. This is specifically for those who have never tried Pilates before as an introduction to the method. You will then have the option to join one of the Improvers weekly group classes to continue and develop your practise.
 
You will learn the foundations on which to build your practise – the fundamental principles through contemporary and functional exercises. Each week I will guide you through the exercises to release tension, promote mind-body connection and develop your ability to move with greater ease, efficiency and enjoyment.

Although aimed at beginners, it is always useful to re-visit the basics (and correct any bad habits!) so if it’s been a while since you were last “on the mat” and you would like to refresh your technique, you are very welcome to join. ​

​

Being part of a small group ensures all participants can benefit from individual attention and guidance.

Email to add your name to the wait list for the next Beginners Course and we will notify you when a space becomes available. Alternatively or in addition, you may wish to consider some private tuition sessions on a 1:1 basis to get your Pilates practise under way.

Improvers

Improvers Class

This class is suitable for those who have taken the Beginner Course or for those who have some previous experience of mat work Pilates.

Week-on-week we will build on your knowledge of the exercises reinforcing the fundamentals of Pilates and mobilising the entire body.

​

By the end of class, your body will feel balanced and energised and your mind will feel calmed.

Improvers Class (Male)

Mondays 6.15pm
Haslewey Community Centre

This class evolved further to a request for a men-only class. Some men may feel self-conscious in mixed-gender classes, especially as Pilates has (incorrectly) a reputation as being “for women”. A men-only space can encourage participation without fear of judgement.

This class is suitable for Beginners or for those who have some previous experience of mat work Pilates.

​

Week-on-week we will build on your knowledge of the exercises reinforcing the fundamentals of Pilates and mobilising the entire body. By the end of class, your body will feel balanced and energised and your mind will feel calmed.

There is a common misconception that Pilates is geared towards women. Not so. The Pilates method of exercise was devised by a man. Joseph Pilates developed “Contrology”, later to become known as Pilates, in the early 20th century. The method focused on rehabilitation and strength-building and was born out of a desire to become physically fit and strong after a number of childhood illnesses left him weak. One of its earliest known uses was with injured veterans of WW1.


Pilates is enjoyed by all genders today because it offers a unique combination of strength, flexibility, injury prevention and mind-body connection for all ages and fitness levels.

Mixed Ability Class

This class is suitable for those with previous mat work experience who would like to build on and refine this.
 
Contemporary and functional exercises are combined with classical mat exercise variations to challenge your mind-body connection and improve your ability to move and function better, stronger. Classes may include small props/equipment.

1:1 Tuition

Monday – Saturday by appointment. 
1:1  Pilates tuition in the comfort of your own home.

​​Private classes are perfect if you are new to Pilates and wish to learn the basics before joining a group class. Perhaps you have been participating in group classes for a while and are looking for a specific approach for your body and a bespoke training practice. Private tuition is also an option for those whose daily schedules clash with group class times.
